NEWS
Diabetes clinic serves local uninsured
OU-COM’s Community Health Programs offers free health care to uninsured Appalachian citizens. One of the programs is the college’s monthly Diabetes Clinic.
The Diabetes Clinic began in November 2006 when local demand for diabetes care led OU-COM to specialize their free community health care. To read more about the clinic and how it is helping out residents of the region, go to
www.oucom.ohiou.edu/News/stories/DiabetesClinic/index.htm.
Please share your vision of OU-COM’s future
Faculty, staff and students may still offer suggestions for the college’s strategic planning initiative, OU-COM 2020: Envisioning Our Future. Those who attended previous open forums are encouraged to offer additional comments.
You may submit your ideas to a subcommittee group member, provide comments online, or add your thoughts to the first draft of OU-COM 2020, to be circulated soon. Find the list of subcommittee chairs and members or submit ideas online here: www.oucom.ohio.edu/2020/.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Faculty Development Tidbit: Stories are easier to recall
Our brains are wired to forget what our brains perceive as uninteresting and unimportant to our survival. If you want your audience to remember your content, make it memorable with a good story. Stories should have interesting beginnings, engaging content and a clear conclusion.
Today it seems that almost all information is only a mouse-click away. It’s more important than ever to have a teacher who can synthesize these facts and give them context and perspective.
A presentation is never just about the facts. People want the story. Your job is to identify which elements of your content lend themselves to visualization, emotion and anecdotes.
Find more “Tips” at your OU-COM & CORE faculty development web resources: www.oucom.ohiou.edu/fd/programs.htm or www.ohiocore.org/cf/index.htm. If you have a great strategy that seems to always work, please send it to me, and I’ll include it in a future Faculty Development Tidbit.
