College graduates newest class of osteopathic physicians
In an impassioned keynote address, ranging from playful familiarity to heartfelt counsel, Charles T. Mehlman, D.O., M.P.H., F.A.O.A.O., invoked dignitaries from medical history at OU-COM’s 31st Commencement Saturday.
Two of the graduating physicians concurrently earn their Ph.D.s. while completing their D.O. degrees, and five others spent an extra year at OU-COM as fellows of either family medicine or osteopathic manipulative medicine.

ANNOUNCEMENTS
Water, steam, power outages planned for West Green
Ohio University will shut down the Lausche Heating Plant between Sunday, June 13, and Sunday, June 27, for maintenance. This will result in no hot water service in all West Green buildings and no steam service to autoclaves in Irvine Hall and the Life Sciences building during this time.
The steam and hot water outage will not affect cooling systems in West Green buildings.
On Saturday, June 26, 8 a.m.–8 p.m., a power outage will affect Parks Hall, Grosvenor Hall and Grosvenor West. The outage allows the university to connect a new electrical substation to the university electrical systems. Emergency power will be operating during the outage, so any devices connected to those outlets will have power.
Diabetes Free Clinic food drive ends tomorrow
The Area Health Education Center and Community Health Programs are holding a non-perishable food drive through tomorrow, June 8. Items collected by the food drive will go to patients in the Diabetes Free Clinic.
The goal is to provide each patient with a bag of nutritious foods that will encourage healthy food choices. The non-perishable food wish list contains diabetes-appropriate choices, such as peanut butter, canned tuna in water, dried beans, whole grain pasta, 100-percent fruit juices and canned fruit, beans and vegetables.
· Drop off donations to Jane Crace, accounting associate for Community Health Programs, in Grosvenor 055 today and tomorrow, June 8.
· For more information, contact Missy Kemper, assistant director of the Area Health Education Center and Community Health Programs, at 740.593.2567 or kemperm@ohio.edu.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
A lecturer raises a glass of water and asks, "How heavy do you think this glass of water is?" Student estimations range from 20 to 500 grams. The lecturer replies, "It depends on how long you hold it. If you hold it for an hour, you'll have an ache in your arm. If you hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance."
That's how it is with stress management. If we carry our burdens too long, sooner or later, they become too heavy to carry. We have to put them down a while and rest. When we're refreshed, we can carry on. So, when you leave the office, put the burden of work down. Don't carry it home. You can pick it up tomorrow.
Take a moment to just simply RELAX. Put down anything that may be a burden to you, and don't pick it up again until after you've rested a while. Life is short. Enjoy it!
Here are some words of advice for dealing with life’s burdens:
