Hundreds attend Academic & Research Center Grand Opening ceremony
More than 300 donors--OHIO faculty, staff and students, as well as other friends and community member--gathered Saturday to celebrate the official Grand Opening of the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations and Charles R. and Marilyn Y. Stuckey Academic & Research Center (ARC).
The building represents a historic partnership between OU-COM and the Fritz J. and Dolores H. Russ College of Engineering and Technology.
During the gala event, OU-COM major benefactors cut ribbons on most of their 28 named spaces, which included medical research labs, the café, the fireplace alcove, conference rooms, and more.
The $34.5 million ARC building is one of only four facilities financed primarily through private donations. The Osteopathic Heritage Foundations gave $10 million toward its construction, and Ohio University Board of Trustees member and Russ College alumnus Charles Stuckey and his wife, Marilyn, donated $5 million.
All told, more than $22 million was raised for this construction project, through the generosity of more than 550 alumni, corporations and other friends of OU-COM and the Russ College.
More about Saturday’s event available on both the OU-COM and university web sites later today.
Grosvenor renovation begins; lactation room temporarily relocated
Renovation began last week in Grosvenor Hall and Grosvenor West for the new Clinical Training and Assessment Center and Free Clinic.
Construction noise will be at its worst during the beginning phase of the project, while demolition is performed. Asbestos abatement work started this past Friday on the Grosvenor ground floor and will continue for two weeks. Student lockers on that floor have been temporarily removed and will be reinstalled the week of May 24.
General construction will continue into 2011.
The lactation room for OU-COM also has been moved temporarily from Grosvenor West to Irvine Hall 197. An outside door key to Irvine Hall will give you access to the room. If you do not have an outside door key, you can temporarily sign one out from the Office of Biomedical Sciences in Irvine Hall 228.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Faculty Development Tidbit: Resources for interactive lecturing
This week’s featured resource is an online learning module about interactive lectures. The web site offers strategies and specific activities you can integrate into lectures to help engage students in both large and small classes. The module was developed by the Science Education Resource Center at Carleton College.
Take a look at some of their suggestions at http://serc.carleton.edu/sp/library/interactive/index.html
Find more tips at your OU-COM & CORE faculty development web resources: www.oucom.ohiou.edu/fd/programs.htm or www.ohiocore.org/cf/index.htm. If you have a great strategy that seems to always work, please send it to me, and I’ll include it in a future Faculty Development Tidbit.
