PREFACE:
Ohio University and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine
(OU-HCOM) recognize that the decision to use alcoholic beverages is a
personal one, in part regulated by the laws of the state of Ohio, city
ordinances, and policy of Ohio University, as well as standards of
responsible behavior consistent with the mission of the University and
OU-HCOM.
POLICY:
All functions and events which (1) are sponsored by OU-HCOM or
any of its student organizations, (2) carry OU-HCOM’s name, or (3) are
authorized by an OU-HCOM representative, will follow Ohio University
Procedure No. 24.001 on the use/sale of alcoholic beverages on Ohio
University property with the following exception: In order to
determine the maximum amount of alcohol to be purchased and/or provided
for a non-sale event, the following formula will be used: Beer –
12 oz., Wine – 6 oz., Liquor – 1 oz. per hour of the event per person of
legal age, but in no case shall the amount of alcohol exceed TWO
servings per person of legal age per event. Ohio University policy
has a higher limit (four-drinks).
It should be noted that it is the policy of Ohio
University to permit the sale and use of alcoholic beverages on the
Athens campus at events sponsored by university departments,
organizations, and/or approved users of university facilities. No
College funds (operational or discretionary) can be used to pay for
alcohol. Foundation funds, unless otherwise approved by the donor
and the Dean, cannot be used to purchase alcohol.
