1.         Research policies and procedures apply to all patients, students, faculty, and staff of OU-COM.  Any individuals or groups outside of OU-COM wishing to make use of OU-COM facilities, personnel, or resources are also subject to these policies and procedures.  Prior to the initiation of any research project as defined herein, the appropriate approvals must be obtained.

 

2.         Undergraduate and graduate students from other departments of Ohio University and the College of Osteopathic Medicine frequently provide research assistance to the College.  Employment of students on any basis is governed by established University policy.

 

                       Procedure

 

A.     Osteopathic Students – In order to facilitate the employment of osteopathic medical students by OU-COM departments, Student Affairs will handle the posting of jobs and paperwork involved in hiring a medical student.

 

B.     Student Hourly Other Than Osteopathic Medical Students – This category includes part-time or temporary employment of any student of Ohio University for any purpose.  Student hourly position descriptions must be posted at the University Student Employment Office in Chubb Hall; wage levels are determined by the department head.

 

C.     Ohio University Work Study Student- Arrangements may be made through the Office of Financial Aid, Chubb Hall.

 

3.         Non-student personnel maybe hired with assistance from the COM Office of Human Resources.

 

4.         Faculty, staff and students serving as investigators receive no additional remuneration over and above usual salary and benefits.

 

5.         Research related travel by the Pre-doctoral Fellows is supported by the Department of Family Medicine for Family Medicine or OMM Fellows, and by the Department of Social Medicine for PMPH Fellows.

6.         Small amounts of “seed money” are available to the Pre-doctoral Fellows to initiate or pilot clinical research projects.
