Department

Office of Research and Grants

Issued by:

Jack Blazyk, Ph.D.,  Assoc. Dean for  Research and Grants

Approved by:

John A. Brose, D.O., Dean

All faculty in the College of Osteopathic Medicine are strongly encouraged to obtain external funding from grants and contracts to support salary and benefits.  For faculty on less than full-year appointments, this funding can supplement the salary up to twelve (12) months.  For faculty already on full-year appointments or if the salary support obtained is in excess of twelve (12) months, the amount of salary and benefits released by grant funding will be distributed as follows:

  • 80% will be transferred to the Dean’s Research Support Fund.*
  • 20% will be transferred to a designated account of the faculty member;

Exceptions to this policy:

  1. For faculty hired with 100% salary/benefits expected to be funded by grants, no distribution will occur.
  2. For faculty hired with a portion of salary/benefits expect to be funded by grants, a distribution (according to this policy) will occur for only for the portion of salary/benefits guaranteed on operating funds.

These funds will be available to the faculty member for the fiscal year the faculty salaries are released by grant funding plus the subsequent fiscal year.  The faculty member may submit a proposal to the Dean to request to carry forward remaining funds one additional fiscal year. All remaining balances in faculty member accounts will then revert to the Dean’s Research Support Fund.

Exceptions may be considered at the discretion of the Dean.

*Departments can apply for support in cases where teaching needs necessitate a request for a portion of these funds.
