The Research Challenge Program is sponsored by the Ohio University Vice President for Research and administered by the Ohio University Office of Research & Sponsored Programs (ORSP). The Research Challenge Program will follow the Vice President for Research guidelines as listed on the web at http://research.ohiou.edu/orsp/index.php?section=56&page=334. Basic awards are up to $2,500 and must be matched dollar for dollar by college and other sources (departmental, program, center or institute, etc.) for a total budget of up to $5,000. Policy: OU-COM is committed to providing a portion on the match funds to OU-COM faculty members who have submitted qualifying proposals as Principal Investigator (PI) from grants that will pay the 14% College distribution of the F&A cost recovery to OU-COM. OU-COM will provide up to $1,250 (or half the required match) per Research Challenge award contingent on available funding. Faculty members should secure other sources (departmental, program, center or institute, etc.) of match funding (half the required match) prior to submission of forms to the OU-COM Office of Research & Grants. If other sources of funding cannot be secured, the Department Chair may submit to the Dean a request (and justification) that the other source match be funded from central College funds. Any central College funding of Research Challenge match is at the discretion of the Dean. Procedure: Upon receipt and completion of Research Challenge award applications from ORSP, faculty members should secure departmental, program, center or institute, etc. match funding up to $1,250 and provide account numbers on Research Challenge award application. Faculty members must also obtain the signature of the Department Chair on the application form. Upon completion, forms should be routed to the Accounting Specialist in the Office of Research & Grants (234 Grosvenor Hall) for processing. OU-COM will supplement matching funds with up to $1,250 per award, for a maximum total match of $2,500. Accounting Specialist will obtain the signature of the Associate Dean for Research & Grants and forward completed application to ORSP. Award notifications will be sent to the faculty member by ORSP.
