The Ohio University
College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-COM) Clinical Research Unit has a
number of resources that can assist in clinical trials. These include:
Clinical
Research Nurses:
Certified nurses are available to assist with, but are not limited to,
review of IRB proposal; planning of study protocol; patient recruitment
and obtaining consent; patient care in clinical trials, obtaining
samples, and preparation of lab samples.
Clinical
Research Unit Space:
Space is available in Parks Hall (018, 020, and 030 Parks Hall) and in
the
Cornwell Center for Cardiovascular and Diabetes Care
for use of human subject trials.
Physicians:
Physicians in the facility can be available to complete physical exams
and medical clearance of patients for clinical trials.
OU-COM faculty and
staff will have first priority with regard to Clinical Research Unit
personnel, spaces, resources, and services. Faculty and staff at Ohio
University (OU) will have second priority to the Clinical Research Unit
spaces, resources, and services.
If faculty or staff
would like to utilize the Clinical Research Unit, a copy of the research
protocol and a written request of services must be submitted to the
Director of Clinical Research..
Both OU-COM and OU
faculty and staff will be invoiced for research time used at the
research nurses’ actual hourly pay. This rate can be obtained by
contacting the Office of Research and Grants at 593-2336. The nursing
staff will keep a log of time spent on each project. Any photocopying
pertaining to the study and any supplies used to conduct the study will
be charged directly to the researcher’s departmental account. The
researcher must provide an account number to the Office of Research and
Grants prior to the initiation of the study.
The Director of the Clinical Research has authority to make decisions
about Clinical Research Unit usage in situations not specifically
addressed in this policy.
