SELECTION FOR INTERVIEW:
Applicants to Ohio
University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine (OU-HCOM) are
reviewed for interview when their files are complete. Invitation
to interview is determined by the Director. Decisions are based on
academic ability and professional promise. When needed, the
Director will consult with the dean and other offices to determine
whether an applicant should be interviewed.
-
Ohio Residents:
receive special consideration for interview. Applicants
can be invited for interview, put on “hold” to be
reviewed later in the admission cycle, or be notified
that they will not be interviewed.
-
Out-of-State Residents: applicants may be offered interviews if they
have returned a signed contract to practice five years
in Ohio. Normally, they are selected on the basis of
outstanding scholarship, professional promise;
demonstrate qualities that lend to our social mission,
or family background in Ohio. Applicants can be invited
for interview, put on “hold” to be reviewed later in the
admissions cycle, or be notified that they will not be
interviewed.
INTERVIEWS:
In late September and
running through late-April, the Student Selection Advisory Committee
conducts applicant interviews. The Committee is divided into teams
of three, which typically contains a D.O., a Ph.D., and either a senior
administrator or another D.O. or Ph.D. In separate 30-minute
interviews, each team member interviews the applicants assigned to the
team. The team members then meet at 4:15 00 p.m. to discuss their
recommendations. Dissenting opinions are included in the Committee
report.
