The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) handles both phase III
and IV investigator–initiated and corporate–sponsored
trials. A corporate-sponsored trial is a study
initiated by a drug company to test a drug’s
efficacy for a particular condition. The sponsor
company funds, designs and controls the study. An
investigator-initiated trial is an investigation
initiated by a physician, who designs and controls
the study, usually seeking grant support to fund it.
