The
Academic Research Center (ARC)
will feature 100,000 square feet of
state-of-the-art integrated research
space, designed to facilitate
development of new diagnostics,
therapeutics and treatment paradigms.
The space will host and enhance
collaboration among individuals from the
College of Osteopathic Medicine, the
Russ College of Engineering and
Technology, the College of Arts and
Sciences and the College of Health and
Human Services. In addition, scientists
from university research centers, such
as the Edison Biotechnology Institute
and the Appalachian Rural Health
Institute, will conduct
cross-disciplinary, collaborative
research within the new facility.
The ARC will eliminate the traditional
academic silos by co-locating teams of
multidisciplinary clinicians and
scientists working toward common
research goals. Proximity, specialized
equipment, shared laboratory and meeting
spaces, high-speed Internet and
sophisticated computer workstations will
enhance and accelerate collaborative
research efforts. The facility also will
incorporate community learning and
teaching spaces. Reflecting a
learning-centered concept, the design is
sensitive to a variety of learning
styles in order to encourage individual
exploration, teamwork and conversation.
“This project reflects the kind of
energy and enthusiasm we saw more than
30 years ago when Ohio’s osteopathic
medical community and visionary
legislators worked together to create
our college,” says Dean Jack Brose, D.O.
In addition to significant healthcare
outcomes, the facility and associated
research projects will provide
invaluable research and research
training opportunities for medical as
well as other undergraduate and graduate
students. By working with
multidisciplinary research teams,
students will gain unique insights into
the entire research experience, from the
preliminary thesis, through discovery
and development, to production and
implementation. |
