The Ohio University
Student Health Program

OU-HCOM students with Ohio University's Student Health Insurance Plan (Accordia/Anthem) may be seen at University Medical Associates (UMA) (1) only on referral by a Hudson Health Center physician, OR (2) only if using the UMA Express Care service during hours that Hudson is closed. Accordia/Anthem has informed UMA that they will not pay for health care services unless one of the above conditions is met. Therefore, OU-HCOM students with OU student insurance must go to Hudson Health Center first during their open hours. Parks Hall receptionists have been instructed NOT to give an appointment unless they are assured that OU-HCOM students have been to Hudson Health Center and have a referral in hand OR unless the student is making an Express Care appointment during the times Hudson is closed.

STUDENT AFFAIRS HOME

Students who are not covered by the OU Student Health Insurance plan may go to the UMA for care without referral from Hudson Health Center.

Family members of students may be seen at UMA, as Hudson Health Center does not treat dependents (unless, of course, the dependent is also an Ohio University student).

Physicians are often asked by students/patients for medical treatment/advice in the hallway and administrative offices. This is not an appropriate way to provide medical care. This type of behavior is discouraged. These individuals should be referred to the University Osteopathic Medical Center or Hudson Health Center for an appointment.
