E-Mail Instructions

OU student (Oak) e-mail can be accessed from any computer, anywhere--just like Hotmail or Yahoo--and it's FREE!

Here are the benefits of using your Oak account instead of having your mail forwarded to another web-based e-mail account…
  • Students will ONLY receive their grade reports in their Oak e-mail mailboxes. No paper copies will be mailed out!

  • The university utilizes e-mail as a primary means to communicate with students and as a student of OU-HCOM; reading your Oak e-mail is YOUR responsibility. Often, students miss important e-mail messages from OU-HCOM because their Hotmail or Yahoo mailboxes are full. These e-mails then get returned to the sender without ever reaching the intended recipients.

Accessing your Oak e-mail account is easy... here's how!

If you've never activated your Oak account e-mail, here are the simple steps you'll need to know to get your Oak account up and running:
  1. You'll need your Social Security number and your Registration Access Code (RAC). Your RAC can be found on your most recent grade report. If you don't know your RAC, call the Student Affairs office(1-800-444-2156) and Molly can help you with this information .
  2. Then, just follow the instructions at this link: http://www.cns.ohiou.edu/email/activate.html

If you don't know your Oak login ID:

If you've never used your Oak login ID before and don't even know what that is, simply go to Ohio University's home page at www.ohio.edu and do a people search (top right hand corner of page) for yourself. Your Oak login ID will be on the directory results page that comes up and will be your initials followed by a series of numbers (for example, rz682902)

If you forget your student Oak account password or are unable to get your password to work:

You can have it reset by calling the Support Center (740-593-1222) with your full name, Social Security number and current Registration Access Code (RAC). Again, if you don't know your RAC, contact Molly in Student Affairs for assistance (1-800-444-2156) and we'll be glad to get you this information.

To change your password:

You'll need your Oak login ID and your current valid password. This information can be entered and the password changed at this link:

https://redbud.cats.ohiou.edu/cgi-bin/oakrpc/oakpasswd

Once you have your valid password and Oak ID, you can access your Oak account from any computer on the planet that is connected via the Internet from this link:

https://webmail.ohiou.edu/

You can also access it on or off campus at the Ohio University Front Door:

http://www.ohio.edu/

Either way, it's FAST, it's EASY and it's FREE…and you'll be in the know!
