The Department of Social Medicine, established in
1997, is currently composed of 15 full- and part-time faculty
and staff. The disciplines represented by the faculty include
medical sociology, biological anthropology, medical
epistemology, preventive medicine, public health, history of
medicine, medical ethics, health policy, and health-care
financing and administration.

Faculty and staff currently teach in both of the
Medical School's
Curricula
(patient-centered continuum and clinical
presentation continuum), the
Health Policy Fellowship
program, the
College of Arts and Sciences, and the
Centers for Osteopathic Research & Education.

Departmental faculty
are the authors of numerous books, peer-reviewed
articles and chapters. Faculty and staff have been
the recipients of federal, state, and other grants.
They have also received internal and external
recognition and have been elected to leadership
positions within their respective professional
societies. |
