Dear OU-COM students, faculty, and
staff members,
This message is an update on the OU-COM strategic
plan, and an invitation to you to read the plan and
participate in this year’s strategic planning
process. You will find the current version of the
plan on the web at:
http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/strategicplan/OU-COM_strat_plan_9-2-03.pdf
After a year of hard work, the Strategic Planning
Committee chaired by John Howell, Ph.D. issued its
final report in October, 2002. That report
identified 10 issues facing the College, and
specified goals to be accomplished under each issue.
Since that time, the Dean’s Advisory Group has
revised the College mission statement and
reorganized some of the goals listed under the 10
issues.
Page 2 of the plan lays out the strategic planning
schedule for 2003-04. In brief, various groups
within OU-COM will be asked to concentrate on one
issue each, to accomplish the following tasks:
By December 1, 2003, the assigned groups will devise
methods to measure progress toward, or
accomplishment of, each goal listed under the 10
strategic plan issues. For example, the Curriculum
Advisory Committee will create measurement criteria
for each of the six goals listed under issue 7:
Curriculum Theme. The Dean’s Advisory Group will
then review the recommended measures or benchmarks.
By February 15, 2004, the assigned groups will
devise one or more action plans to accomplish each
strategic plan goal. The Dean’s Advisory Group will
review the recommended action plans, which will then
be used in budgetary and programmatic planning for
the 04-05 year and beyond.
Even if you are not asked to participate in a
strategic plan issue group, these groups will be
looking for input and assistance this Fall to
determine how to measure the strategic plan goals,
and in the Spring, to devise the best action plan(s)
to achieve each goal. We will publicize the
membership of these groups shortly.
One final note: a CORE strategic planning group,
chaired by Ms. Kathy Rice from South Pointe
Hospital, is working on a strategic plan specific to
the CORE system. Hospital and College personnel are
meeting frequently to develop this strategic plan. I
will also share this plan with you when it is
completed. We will work closely with the CORE on
issues that are common between the two strategic
plans
Sincerely,
Jack Brose
Dean, OU-COM |
