Emergency Medicine Club

Mission:
It is the goal of the Emergency
Medicine Club at OU-HCOM to introduce students the unique
aspects of a relatively young and dynamic medical
specialty. We aim to create opportunities to explore a
variety of topics and subspecialties in emergency medicine,
to promote the field, and to help prepare students for
clinical clerkships and residency.
Services Provided:
In addition to providing clinically
useful programming that will prove advantageous to students
as they progress beyond their basic science years, the
Emergency Medicine Club is working toward instituting new
programming in regards to simulated labs. We hope to expand
the number of labs we have offered in the past, to provide
our members with more hands-on experience while integrating
the simulation dummies in the ER suite. We have also
recently begun a Wilderness Medicine lecture series hosted
by Dr. Straley that will continue through out the year.

Many of our events are fairly
economical to host. Our key expenses are providing food for
lectures and travel expenses to conferences. Our plans for
generating funds are to host a few fundraisers throughout
the year and to apply for two grants geared towards
emergency medicine interest groups provided by the Society
for Academic Emergency Medicine and the Emergency Medicine
Residents Association.
Dues: $20 paid annually.
