Mission:

To promote family practice and other primary care fields through lectures, workshops and events and to serve the community through various health-related volunteer opportunities.

Services Provided:

SA-ACOFP (Family Practice Club) is one of the school's most active clubs for volunteer, guest speaker, and other major events at OU-HCOM. Our biggest volunteer activities include the West Virginia home repairs in the fall, and the Senior Prom at Kime's Nursing Home and the Bike Rodeo to teach children about bike safety in the spring. SA-ACOFP hosts the OU-HCOM Prom that is an incredibly fun social event that all members can attend with a guest and eat for free! Finally, we will have guest speakers on various topics from the business of running a practice to workshops where you get to do procedures, such as suturing, colposcopy, and joint injections. We also hold several book sales throughout the year so you can purchase used books MUCH cheaper than the local book stores.  We look to continue these events, and add more on top of this. We also are very active in the state ACOFP organization with meeting to hear and vote on pressing legislative issues that pertain to family practice and medicine.

Tentative Schedule for 2012-2013:

  • Workshops: Joint Injection workshop, Coloscopy workshop, Naked OMM (co-sponsored with OMM club)

  • Lectures: Our goal is to hold a lecture at least once per month on topics including physician lifestyle issues (having kids in medical school/residency, two doctor families, etc), wellness/stress relief, sexual health, the Primary Care Progress initiative, addiction medicine, child abuse (co-sponsored with pediatrics club), sexual assault (co-sponsored with OB/GYN club) and others

  • Service: West Virginia home repairs, Kimes nursing home events (co-sponsored with Geriatrics club), blood drives (co-sponsored with SOMA), the annual Bike Rodeo, and various other events

  • Events: Prom in February, we also hope to hold other social events throughout the year

  • Fundraising:  Book sales will serve as our main source of fundraising, we also plan to sell Maxwell quick medical reference books
