Mission:

The goal of the SAAO is to help osteopathic medical students to: teach, advocate, advance, explore, and research the science of osteopathic medicine while emphasizing and focusing on osteopathic principles, philosophy, palpatory diagnosis, and OMT in total health care.

Service Provided:

SAAO provides the college with students whose focus is to hone in on their OMT skills in order to further the osteopathic profession.  The organization strives to work together with other organizations to promote equality and diversity amongst the medical community. SAAO also works with the Athens community by providing opportunities to learn what OMT is and how it can beneficial it can be through a series of events that reach out to a variety of patient populations in order to not only teach our students but treat the community participants. 

Tentative Schedule for 2012-13:

  • 2 Savarese Board Review Book/Stronglight Table Sale - Fall/Spring, fundraiser
  • OMM Auction - fundraiser

  • SAAO Convocation - March 2012 in Louisville, Ky, registration funded for by auction profits.

  • Cranial club - every first tuesday of the month to learn craniosacral OMT techniques.

  • Community service events

  • 1st year practice session/practice praticals - every thursday to help 1st year students with palpatory and treatment skills

  • OU-HCOM interviewee sessions - work with admissions to show OMT to potential new students

  • 2nd year bi-weekly reviews on Tuesdays to help with boards

  • OMT events with pediatrics, geriatrics, sports medicine, OB/GYN club -- how to use OMT in those particular patient population.  Funding from all involved.

  • Cranial course provided by Dr. Chila

  • Naked OMM Event provided by SUMMA CORE site

Dues: $55 annually
