American Medical Association/ Ohio State
Medical Association

Mission:
The American Medical Association
Medical Student Section (AMA-MSS) is dedicated to
representing medical students, improving medical education,
developing leadership and promoting activism for the health
of America. There is a future for medical students in the
AMA and its policy making process. Members of the Medical
Student Section can continue their involvement in organized
medicine through the Resident and Fellow, Young Physicians
and Organized Medical Staff Sections of the AMA and its
House of Delegates. The AMA represents physicians who are
dedicated to the health of the American people, serving as a
forum for national health policy development. The OU-HCOM
Chapter is affiliated with the American Medical Association
and the Ohio State Medical Association. Membership in the
OU-HCOM chapter includes membership in both of these
organizations for four years.
The Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA)
is a statewide association representing Ohio physicians,
residents and medical students. It is dedicated to making
the practice of medicine less complicated and more
satisfying for physicians, their staffs and patients, by
advocating their position, saving them time and money and
promoting the medical profession through education and other
services. The OSMA is affiliated with the American Medical
Association on the national level and county medical
societies on the local level.
Services Provided:
AMA is involved in numerous
volunteering opportunities throughout the year at locations
including: the local soup kitchen, O'Bleness Hospital, local
schools, and other places throughout the Athens/surrounding
communities.
Tentative Schedule for 2012-13:
We don't have a set plan for events
yet; however, we plan on hosting many speakers throughout
the year and maintaining involvement in volunteer activities
throughout Athens and its surrounding areas. We will fund
these through t-shirt sales, mug sales, and other
fundraising events.
