Student Government Association

2012-2013 Student Government Schedule

Agenda and Minutes posted as soon as available.

The organization meets on a regular basis throughout the academic year.  These meetings, chaired by the President, Simon Fraser, are open to the entire student body, as well as faculty and staff.

The SGA meetings serve as the main venue for the organization to address issues of concern to the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and students.

Regularly Dr. Brose,

Dean of OU-HCOM, attends

SGA meetings to hear

the concerns of the students.

Presidents' Association:

Each organization’s president has the honor and responsibility of being a member of the Presidents’ Association.  Comprised of the presidents from each organization at OU-HCOM, this collaborating force serves as a means for clubs to communicate with each other and to learn about their responsibilities as an organization.

Chaired by SGA CPC Vice President, Laura Roache, the Presidents’ Association meets on a term basis, provides information on an organization’s status, and promotes inter-organizational relations.  Each President develops a term report for the SGA President, Valerie Van Ravenswaay, to present at the Counsel of Osteopathic Student Government Presidents (COGSCP) meetings round the country.

Day at the Statehouse, students travel to Columbus, Ohio and meet with members of the Ohio General Assembly.

Wellness Program

The goal of the Wellness Committee, under the leadership of Bret Nolan, Amy Seese, Eric Questel and Evelyn Niederiter, is to create and maintain a healthy environment at OU-HCOM and provide us with tools to help our future patients live healthier lives.

One way to accomplish this goal is through  lunchtime lecture series focusing on nutrition, exercise and mental health.

Under the leadership of Lauren Orellana-Hamman, Matt Arroyo, Nathaniel Chase, Kyle Mudd, Amanda Nahhas, Erica Richey, Matt Roesch, Chris Weirtz and Stephen Wernerthis committee aims to equip future osteopathic physicians with a sense of values that govern their professional lives. Lectures throughout the year will encompass a host of issues that student doctors and physicians deal with throughout their career. These topics include expectations of student doctors, malpractice, ethical issues, diversity, addiction and other behavioral issues. We are excited to present these lectures to you, with the hope that they will help set a foundation for professional behavior throughout your experiences as student doctors, interns, residents and future physicians.
