Introduction to the Web Journal

The Galapagos Islands are without a doubt one of the most spectacular places on Earth. During this workshop we were fortunate to have excellent weather, a comfortable boat with a great crew, a very knowledgeable guide and instructor, and a cohesive and inquisitive group of participants.

For this Web Journal, I asked the participants to write briefly about their impressions of each island and the biological, ecological and development challenges that they perceived.

This program contributes to the sustainability of the research efforts that the Ohio University Tropical Disease Institute carries out in Ecuador through our Infectious Disease Research Laboratory. It is our hope that this pages help to educate those interested about this unique and fragile place, and perhaps, raise their interest in joining one of our next visits to the Enchanted Islands.
